Count Draula told me to stay at the Golden Krone Hotel in Bistriz. This is a scenic town in the shadow of the Carpathian Mountains. As soon as I arrived, the innkeeper’s wife gave me a letter. It read,

My friend. Welcome to the Carpathians. Sleep well tonight. At three tomorrow afternoon, a coach will leave for the town of Bukovian. I have reserved a seat for you. When you get to Borgo Pass, you will meet my diver, who will bring you to me. Your friend, Dracula.

드라큘라 백작은 내게 비스트리츠에 있는 골덴 크론 여관에 머물라고 말했다. 이곳은 카르파티아 산맥 아래에 있는 경치가 아름다운 마을이다. 내가 도착하자마자, 여관 주인의 아내는 내게 편지 한 통을 주었다. 거기에는 이렇게 쓰여 있었다.

“친구, 카르파티아 산맥에 온 것을 환영하오. 오늘 밤 푹 자두시오. 내일 오후 3시에 역마차가 부코비나로 떠날 거요. 당신을 위해 자리를 예약해 두었소. 보르고 고개에 도착하면, 당신을 내게 데려다 줄 내 마부를 만나게 될 거요. 당신의 친구, 드라큘라.”
