The winter was very bitter. Pulling the milk cart was very hard work. Patrasche often slipped on the icy roads. Patrasche had become an old dog. One day, Nello and Patrasche found a pretty puppet in the snow. Nello tried to find its owner, but no one was around. “This is a good present for Alois,” he thought. He quietly climbed up to her window and knocked on it. Alois opened the window. “Here is a doll I found in the snow,” said Nello. “Take it.” With that, he went away quickly. Alois didn’t even have a chance to thank him.

겨울은 아주 매서웠다. 우유 수레를 끄는 일은 매우 힘든 일이었다. 파트라슈는 빙판길에서 자주 미끄러졌다. 파트라슈는 늙은 개가 되어 있었다. 어느 날, 네로와 파트라슈는 눈 속에서 예쁜 인형을 발견했다. 네로는 주인을 찾아 주려고 했지만, 주위엔 아무도 없었다. ‘알로아에게 좋은 선물이야.’ 그가 생각했다. 그는 알로아의 집 창문으로 올라가서 똑똑 두드렸다. 알로아가 창문을 열었다. “자, 여기 인형. 내가 눈 속에서 주운 거야.” 네로가 말했다. “너 가져.” 그 말과 함께, 네로는 얼른 가버렸다. 알로아는 그에게 고맙다고 말할 기회조차 없었다.
