분사구문이 능동형일 경우

Walking to the grocery, Michael was hit by a car. (o)

Walking to the grocery, a car hit Michael. (x)

>When he walked to the grocery, Michael was hit by a car.

잡화점으로 걸어 간 것은 차가 아니라 Michael 이므로, 주절의 주어는 Michael 로 써야 합니다.

분사구문이 수동형일 경우

Born of the same parents, they differ in appearance. (o)

Born of the same parents, their appearances are different. (x)

>Though they are born of the same parents, they differ in appearance.

위의 예문에서는 그들(they)이 같은 부모에게서 태어난 것이지, 그들의 외모 (their appearances)가 같은 부모에서 태어난 것이 아닙니다. 따라서 주절의 주어는 그들(they) 이어야 합니다. 그리고 태어난 것은 자신이 능동적으로 태어난 것이 아니라 부모가 태어나게 한 것이므로 수동형으로 ‘be+p.p. (동사의 과거 분사형)’의 수동형을 썼습니다.
